Obituary of Dennis Patrick Rooney

Dennis Patrick Rooney, age 62, of Elwood, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.  Dennis was born in Chicago, IL, on July 13, 1961, the son of the late Lawson and Eva (nee Meade) Rooney.  He was raised in Joliet and was a graduate of Joliet West High School.  Dennis was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.  Dennis was an Industrial Mechanic for 33 years with Pactiv before retiring. He happily spent the last 5 years owning and operating ADM Auto Detailing with his son.

Dennis was known for being an outdoor enthusiast. He loved being out in nature whether it was hunting, riding ATV’s or being on his Harley.  He also enjoyed collecting guns and going to the shooting range. 

Dennis is survived by his two sons, Timothy (Davina) and Mathew (Brooke Brenczewski) Rooney; his grandchildren, Addison, Aubree Rae, Gracelynn, Bryson and Raelynn; his granddog, “Layla”; and his lifelong friends, Paul Hanko, Jim Roe and Ed Alexander.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Michael Rooney.

A visitation for Dennis Patrick Rooney will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will continue on Friday morning, March 15, 2024 at the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
